Yet for some reason, chain pickerel seem to have been forgotten. In the first half of the 20th century, there were several researchers who studied chain pickerel and produced a volume of work for the fish. I’ll search for “The Rodney Dangerfield of fish,” but even that cliché just got me a bunch of links to Drum and Carp, with nary a word said about ol’ chainsides! It’s so bad that I thought, OK, I know how I’ll find some information. When I did an internet search for “fishing for chain pickerel field and stream” I got a whopping two hits (though one was a cool video). I flipped through 24 magazines of the former and couldn’t find a mention. Even dedicated multispecies publications like In-Fisherman and Field & Stream barely cover the fish.
